The Avocado Light Is a New Low-Fat Avocado, But How Does It Taste?

The Avocado Light is the same as a regular avocado but with 30 percent less fat.

Many worshippers of the smooth, green-fleshed, perpetually Instagrammable deity known colloquially as the avocado are of the belief that there is only one rule when it comes to consumption of our toast-adorning overlord: You can never eat too many. Despite its naysayers, avocado is eminently spreadable, saturated with nutrients, and can lower your cholesterol. Sushi, sandwiches, chips: Is there anything that isn't improved by avocado, we ask?

There's only one problem: The FDA-approved serving size of an avocado is apparently only a third of an avocado. A day. WHAT?

Luckily, the geniuses at Eurobanan have a solution: They've designed a new breed of avocado called the Avocado Light. And, unlike other foods followed by the word light, the Avocado Light is somehow even better than the original. According to The Kitchn,, it has all the nutritional benefits of the avocado we know and love, but with 30 percent less fat. According to the USDA, the mean fat content of all varieties of avocados is about 29.47g, so this would put the Avocado Light at around 20g, give or take. Other bonuses: It has "smooth, shiny green skin," and "is fast ripening with a slow rate of oxidation," according to Fruitnet.

Here's the bad news: Thus far, Eurobanan has only made the Avocado Light available in Spain, where it will officially go on sale later this month. And the company has not announced any plans to bring the botanical marvel to the U.S. thus far. Moreover, just because it has the same nutritional benefits, that doesn't mean it will taste as good. So far, the only thing we know is that the fruit has a "delicate light flavour," per Fruitnet.

So, if you want to get more avocado for your Recommended Daily Allowance, you're going to have to wait until the Avocado Light becomes an American staple. But, if you want to stick it to the feds, you can go out right now and eat as many regular avocados as you want.
