  • A showcase of indigo mastery, the "Tokushima Awa" Selvedge Denim is a truly unique offering from the denim pioneers at Studio D'artisan. Dyed with natural indigo using a traditional Awa Shoai dyeing technique, the fabric utilizes thick cotton yarns which receives the dye at a uneven rate resulting in a deep color with a spectrum of indigo-blues. The "Awa Shoai" dyeing process, similar to century-old dyeing techniques, is a manual, hands-on process. Artisans kneel beside a large vat of indigo dye, leaning over it to immerse the fabric. The initial dip yields a very light shade of blue, necessitating multiple repetitions to achieve deeper colors. The denim is then woven at a low-tension to create a rugged three-dimensional texture that highlights the unique color. The jeans are presented in a rinsed state to eliminate shrinkage, and come fitted with limited edition details throughout.
