During 2016, Citroen halted the sales of new vehicles locally, however, supported owners with Citroen vehicles, this also marked the end of the C1 model on local soil. The last and second-generation C1 models were launched locally during 2014 and in 2015, the French automaker added an engine option and even managed to reduce the price of the model range.  Offered in two trim levels, the small models gained more popularity due to the price decrease and the frugality of the small motor under the bonnet.

1. Powertrain

Under the bonnet of both 2015 model year derivatives is a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. Coupled to the 5-speed manual transmission, the motor produced 51 kW and 96 Nm of torque. Enough to propel the little offering to 100 km/h in 14.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 155 km/h. Its biggest party trick is the minute amount of fuel it sips with Citroen claiming an average fuel consumption figure of 4.1 L / 100 km.

2. Safety

The Citroen C1 is also a remarkably safe little car as at the time it scored 4 out of 5 stars during its Euro NCAP crash test. This is a result of the six airbags fitted as standard equipment. The front passenger and driver each get a front airbag, side head and side chest airbag. The model also offered safety belt pre-tensioners, belt load limiters and ISOFIX anchor points. The Citroen C1 also offers ABS brakes, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Electronic Brake Assist systems as standard equipment to bolster the Electronic Stability Control.

3. Specification

The little French offering comes specified with air-conditioning, a four-speaker sound system with Radio and CD, USB input and Bluetooth functionality as well as volume control buttons on the multifunction steering wheel. Customers can also expect electric windows and electric power steering as standard features.
