Description

IMPORTANT: I ship to the address provided in your payment. If paying by paypal, please, please make sure that shipping address is correct before clicking the send button. Shipping days get hectic, and it's easy to miss requests to ship elsewhere. Thanks...

15+ hand-picked eggs of this super active, schooling killifish, shipped in water. My incubation time has been about two to three weeks, and hatch rate has been about 75%, but shipping may affect that. My goal is for you to hatch out 6 or 8 good fish. This is a very beautiful strain of one of the more unusual killifish that inhabits rocky areas in Lake Tanganyika. They prefer hard, alkaline water; I keep them over aragonite gravel. Picture is of a male from the parent generation. Females, as usual, have very little coloration or markings.

Compatibility: These can be kept in a species tank, but are often added to a community tank of Tanganyikan cichlids like Julidochromis, Lamprologus and Neolamprolgus. I have also kept them in tanks with other active community fish like rainbows, barbs, and larger tetras. Since Tanganyikan killies get to 5" or so and are very active, there eventual home should be at least 36"-48" long.

Special Note: I am just beginning to collect eggs from this batch of breeders. I like to send eggs that are a week old to ensure viability, and since their incubation is rather short, there is a pretty brief shipping window. If this batch is too old to ship by the time you purchase, we may need to delay shipping until the next batch is ready.

Hatching: I usually just leave eggs in water with a small amount of methylene blue to help keep fungus from spreading. I check them every day or two to watch development, and remove any dead/fungused eggs. Eggs hatch without any help about 14-21 days from pick date.

Feeding: Tanganicanus fry are comparatively large, and can easily consume newly hatched brine shrimp immediately. As they grow, they will accept most frozen "meaty" foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, and mysis, and will also thrive on flake and small pellets. They of course relish live brine shrimp and blackworms as well. Fry must be handled carefully when moving, to avoid bent spines or losses from shock. Adults don't like to be moved or handled at all, and are notorious for simply perishing after being transferred or shipped. So, plan ahead, and get them to their new home while they are still flexible about relocating.

Parameters: I don't use heaters, so tanks are in the low 70s in winter and high 70s in summer. Our water is moderately hard (140mg/l) with a pH of 7.5, and I add one tablespoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons. I've never checked it myself, but a couple of buyers report my water arrives with a TDS of 900-1000 ppm.

Shipping: I ship to US only; shipping may need to be coordinated around weather and postal holidays. Eggs usually ship the Saturday, Monday; or Tuesday after payment clears to reduce risk of spending a weekend parked outside some postal sorting station. Please include $10.00 per box for Priority Mail. Multiple egg purchases can be shipped together for no additional shipping charge, or eggs can ship free with fish.

Payment: please pay by money order or paypal within 3 days of purchase. The email address that Aquabid provides in the winning bidder notice is my paypal address, so if you know your total, feel free to pay before contacting me. Otherwise, I usually send out an email within a day of auction end. If you prefer to pay by money order, the Aquabid address is again correct; please let me know when money order is in the mail. I am often looking to clear tanks to make room for the next hatch, so prompt payment is always appreciated.

Replacement: Some eggs do not survive the rigors of shipping. If you get a zero or meager hatch after their due date, I will either replace or refund the price of the eggs. The most dangerous part of their trip is often the time spent sitting in the mailbox or on the porch. If you unable to be home for mail delivery, please consider having the parcel held at your local post office for you to pick up. Shipping charges are not refundable.
