Remember that interesting looking Samsung phone we shared last week with the ring flash-looking thing around the camera called Smart Glow? Well, that phone – the Galaxy J2 (2016) – and a massive, 7-inch monster called the Galaxy J Max have just been announced at a Samsung event in Delhi.

Samsung Galaxy J2 (2016):

First, the Galaxy J2 (2016) price and release date: Rs. 9,750 available on July 14. The Galaxy J2 (2016) specs feature a 5-inch HD Super AMOLED display, a Spreadtrum SC8830 quad-core 1.5 GHz processor, 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage with microSD expansion, 8 MP/5 MP camera combo, LTE, 2,600 mAh battery and Android Marshmallow out of the box. It’s available in black, silver or gold colors.

The Galaxy J2 (2016) has been built with “Make for India” considerations like S Bike mode, Ultra Data Saving mode and Turbo Speed Technology. TST is reportedly able to launch native apps 40% faster than devices with double the RAM. You’ll also get that funky customizable LED notification ring called Smart Glow.

Smart Glow is a fully customizable LED notification light that works for “priority notifications from any app or contact” according to Samsung. As the press release explains:

While up to four alerts can be set, consumers can create and choose their own color for the Smart Glow. It also alerts a user if they are running low on battery, internal memory, or mobile data. Users can also use the Smart Glow LED ring to position the rear camera for higher mega-pixel selfies with the Selfie Assist feature.

Samsung Galaxy J Max:

Now, onto the Galaxy J Max. The Galaxy J Max has an insanely-large-for-a-phone 7-inch WXGA display, a Spreadtrum SC8830 quad-core SoC clocked at 1.5 GHz, 1.5 GB of RAM, 16 GB storage with microSD, 8 MP/2 MP camera combo, LTE, 4,000 mAh battery and – oddly – runs Android 5.1 Lollipop. Hwile that’s all well and good, seeing this in someone’s hands is ridiculous for a phone.

The J Max will set you back Rs. 13,400 from the end of July. The J Max comes with a Bluetooth headset included and a one-year premium subscription to the Viu streaming service. It’ll be available in black or gold and is a pretty obvious competitor to the Xiaomi Mi Max which was recently announced in India for Rs. 14,999.

What do you think of the Galaxy J2 (2016)? Is a 7 inches too big for a phone?
