I really like it. One of the forgotten gems from the Nintendo Nes. You`re a ninja who has to fight his way to find and rescue the girl. Adventure and Action.

Nearly a year ago, I've played through The Legend of Kage 2 for DS and wrote a review about it. Being the oldschool gamer I've always been, I had gone straight to playing this one afterwards. However, my opinions of it were never truly positive at all, no matter how many times I replay it, and no matter what else I've seen other people think of it.

The Legend of Kage is an arcade-esc platformer in which you go venture through forests and buildings to save your beloved. The game mainly consists of you having to deal with bunches of ninja dudes who want you dead. You shoot ninja stars at them or hit them with your sword.
What's funny about the AI in the game is that I commented on the sequel that that game had INCREDIBLY easy levels, because you were able to just walk through it all, and only press the attack button when necessary. Here, however, this is more-or-less the opposite scenario. You have to be pretty darn cautious, because cheap hits are PLENTIFUL here! It doesn't help matters that the hero's jumping antics are ridiculously unpolished. You can't control yourself while in mid-air, making you open to enemy attack. You can try waving your sword to deflect any projectiles, but that is very unreliable and only sometimes works.

And to make things worse, you HAVE to fight off an amount of ninjas at the end of the level to progress. I suppose combat wouldn't be so difficult, but when you least expect it, an enemy shoots a ninja star and it's over. Oh, yeah. Did I forget to mention that you die in one hit? There's no life bar, unless you count the power-up that grants you an extra hit point, but that power only comes out by chance, and absolutely not often at all.

As the gameplay was completely weak, so was the soundtrack. Not the graphics, because they're fairly detailed for an NES game, but the SOUNDTRACK....ugh...THAT'S a different story. It probably would have been kind of a catchy tune if it wasn't for the ear-bleeding "instruments" that were chosen to compose the songs. If you're going to play this game, at least mute the volume on your TV and boot up your iPod or something.
