Silky smooth R&B album that popularized more Western sounds in music from Japan. This paved the way for Japanese R&B.
This album is mainly dance-pop and R&B, but some minor elements from other genres are present within the runtime of the album. The themes consist mainly of love and relationships like a lot of R&B albums do.

I can understand the sympathy towards this album, but I was never into R&B all that much. This album has interesting ideas that work for most of the time, on the other hand, some songs are way too long, and the record doesn’t really change structurally for its 50-min runtime.
I think I would be more than pleased to hear that on a radio in mid 2000s, but I doubt it would appear in my headphones in any time soon.
Favorite Track: Movin’ On Without You
I’m floored! This is an exceptional debut. The incorporation of western R&B is phenomenal. The production is buttery smooth and Utada’s vocal performance is a stellar fit. I honestly have nothing negative to say about this record. Absolute smash.
First Love is good, but listening to a dance album in japanese when not at a club or social event is a pretty empty experience. Also WTF is the juice WRLD sample on the track "Never Let Go"?!!

This record is fantastic. It checks all the marks for a wonderfully fun, bright, and beautiful listen. A timeless pop album for the ages.
