The Ryukyu Islands (???? Ryukyu-shoto), known in Japanese as the Nansei Islands (???? Nansei-shoto, lit. 'Southwest Islands')  are a chain of volcanic Japanese islands that stretch southwest from Kyushu to Taiwan. The largest of the islands is Okinawa.
