imited Edition. Facsimile of the 1947 edition, this publication by Braziller is a reproduction of Matisse's masterpiece that was originally published in a signed edition of 250 copies. A trade version was produced as a hardbound book with dust jacket. However, this copy is one of the special editions produced for the Museum of Modern Art. This facsimile is similar to the original and consists of unbound, loose signatures which are enclosed a white folio with title, see above. The entire folio is further enclosed in a grey clamshell box with blue cloth spine. Matisse's original text, handwritten in French, has been translated by Sophie Hawkes, with an Introduction by Riva Castleman. Includes the original protective cardboard slipcase. A fair copy.
