There could be more Motherland coming to our screens, but the popular cast are so busy they are struggling to find a gap in their diaries.

Stars of the much-loved hit show Anna Maxwell Martin, Diane Morgan, Tanya Moodie, Lucy Punch and Paul Ready need to find time in their packed schedules.

Joan Petrie, the BBC’s director of comedy, told the Daily Star: “Motherland has been great for the BBC.

“But the thing with that show is that the cast are all so successful, it’s about finding time in the diary to do more.”

Last month, Diane, aka Liz and mockumentary star Philomena Cunk, said: “I don’t know. There have been conversations. It’s very difficult to get that cast together but you never know. Who knows?”

She added: “The writers, the actors, they're all successful people. It's very difficult getting them in a room together.” On the 2022 Motherland Christmas special, she said: “I thought it was a bit sort of heartbreaking but sometimes, it’s nice to have a bit of that, isn't it? A bit of poignancy.”

She added about her role: “As the ‘single’ character, they always try and force you into relationship storylines but I think it’s nice sometimes to have storylines that are not about romance, just because you're single, you know? There are other things that can happen to you. Maybe she should rob a bank or something.”

Earlier this week, it was reported an American version of the show could be on the way to the US after talks with ABC and the show’s co-creator Sharon Horgan.
