Ace detective Naoto is one of your friends and teammates in Persona 4 Golden. As a party member, progressing through their social link will offer useful and often powerful abilities in combat, so you’ll want to make sure you max it out as early as you can.

Naoto’s social link is probably the most difficult in the game, due to the extremely short timeframe available to progress through it and the high skill requirements for even starting.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Fortune Arcana social link in Persona 4 Golden.

Norn is an incredibly useful late-game persona, requiring players to be at level 72 to fuse it. You’ll also have to max out the Fortune Arcana social link by growing your friendship with party member Naoto.

Ishtar’s power is based around Wind skills, but it has a weakness to Electric-type attacks, which shouldn’t cause too much of a problem in the late game. Players should still equip Electric negating accessories if they want to use it. Norn is a decent late-game persona, with good support abilities, but is outclassed by many others in other aspects.

Here are the moves Ishtar learns:

  • Start - Garudyne
  • Start - Magarudyne
  • Start - Diarahan
  • Level 74 - Auto-masuku
  • Level 75 - Invigorate 3
  • Level 76 - Wind Amp
  • Level 77 - Insta-Heal
  • Level 79 - Debilitate

Naoto’s Fortune Arcana social link does not start automatically, instead being activated by talking to a man in black in the North Shopping District. Pick the first option, then head to the school to interact with Naoto.

The earliest this social link can be started is October 21, and it’s recommended that you initiate it on this date and focus solely on building this Arcana until it’s maxed out. You’ll also need max Courage and Knowledge to even start the social link.

After initiating the social link, Naoto will be available to hang out with on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, except on days when it’s raining, during which they’re unavailable. They’re located 1F of the Classroom Building on weekdays, and at the Samegawa Flood Plain on Sundays and holidays.

The last day to increase social link rank for the Lovers Arcana is November 27, so if you want to max out the social link and unlock Norn and Naoto’s ultimate Persona Yamato-Takeru you’ll have to do it before then.

It’s recommended that players bring a Fortune persona with them to max out this social link, otherwise, it’s very easy to miss out on maxing out this link before the time limit is up. Naoto’s link is very easy to rank up, with no requirements outside of spending time together and answering questions the right way.

Naoto is also one of the romanceable characters in Persona 4 Golden, with some dialogue choices changing depending on whether or not you enter into a relationship with them. There are a few conversational options you must pick throughout the ranks if you want to romance them, and these along with the changed choices will be clearly marked.

If you do not see a dialogue choice listed, then what you choose doesn’t make a difference to progression. The correct dialogue options are:

  • Rank 1 - I do.
  • Rank 2 - That’s no fun.
    • Remember that card...?
  • Rank 3 - A challenge for a duel?
  • Rank 4 - That card again?
    • Let’s catch him together.
  • Rank 5 - Burn it.
    • A mailbox.
    • Good, you got it back.
    • Let’s do it.
  • Rank 6 - Because I looked reliable.
    • The numbers are important.
    • Romance: I’m glad you’re a girl. / Friendship: Your gender doesn’t matter.
  • Rank 7 - Subtract 40 and 4?
    • Don’t be afraid.
  • Rank 8 - I feel kinda sad.
    • Romance: Protect Naoto. / Friendship: Run with Naoto.
    • Romance: Because I love you. / Friendship: Because we’re friends.
  • Rank 9 - Somewhere high.
    • Throwing things away?
  • Rank 10 - Choose any.
    • Note: If you chose to romance Naoto, tell them you prefer their voice higher if you want them to dress as a girl for the Christmas event.
