David Thewlis has come on board the dark comedy “Croak” with Kevin Thomas directing  from Thewlis’ script with shooting expected to begin in July.

The British heist film also stars Juliette Lewis, Zoe Kazan, Julia Garner, Craig Roberts, Ken Scott and Shirley Henderson. The film is currently in pre-production.

13 Films is handling international rights to the project and will introduce the film to buyers in Berlin. UTA is arranging financing for the film and handling the U.S. rights.

Producers are Stephen Fry and Robert Taylor along with Kevin Thomas and Philippa Thomas, who founded Thomas Thomas Films in 2000.

“Croak” is a Sprout Pictures, Thomas Thomas Films and the Development Partnership production. The project is based on the short film “Sunday Roast,”  which was screened at the London Film Festival last year.

The film is a darkly comedic look at the ludicrous quirks of the film industry, which are thrown into sharp relief when a young actor meets a twisted mortician.
