Steelers to play starters vs. Falcons in preseason finale

The Atlanta Falcons starting offense put together a 10-minute opening drive during Friday’s tie with the Cincinnati Bengals, but things stalled out in the red zone after multiple penalties and an interception.

Falcons head coach Arthur Smith took his starters out after that first drive, but will he allow them play in Thursday’s preseason finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers?

While Smith hasn’t given a definitive answer just yet, it sounds like Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is planning to play his. Pittsburgh pulled its first-team offense after two touchdown drives to open Saturday’s win over the Bills.

Tomlin said he hoped to play his starters a bit more during Thursday’s finale in Atlanta, via our friends at the Steelers Wire.

Smith said the team would determine the best course of action over the next few days.

“I think we’ve got a decent idea, I just really want to see how the next two days go,” said Smith. “We’ll finalize that Tuesday night.”

The Falcons played all of their big names against the Bengals in Week 2, but it’s still tough when there’s only three preseason games and one singular cut day.
