50 Demand-Driven Acquisitions (DDA) We load “discovery records” (without buying the e-books first) –These are still from a restricted pool (slips) Patrons show us what is useful by actually using it Patrons can’t easily tell any difference from the OPAC or the e-book itself

51 DDA in the catalog Ebrary –We also have ebrary e-books from firm order/approvals –These are single user e-books (one person at a time can read them) Records look normal: –Familiar punctuation, capitalization –Subject headings –245 ǂ h [electronic resource] –Proxied link that takes you straight to the book

52 A few differences DDA discovery records are in the “Electronic Resources” owning library –You may not be able to edit these records No holdings set in OCLC –(Discovery records are not OCLC records) –These ebooks are not discoverable through WorldCat Local

54 Duplication in DDA? Avoid duplication in e-books or print If you notice a duplicate, let me know! I am trying to avoid loading duplicate records using ISBNs (Voyager/GOBI should help with this)

55 Triggering a short term loan Patrons can do unlimited viewing of front matter/back matter (first/last 5% of pages) To trigger a short term loan: –View 10 pages –View one page for 10 minutes –Print / copy / download 1 page Short term loan lasts for one day
