Jyu Lae Bistro immediately transports you to an ancient palace with its red lanterns and Oriental decor, creating a warm and romantic ambience. In contrast to its initial outlet, which offers a blend of al fresco dining and indoor seating, this new space is fully air-conditioned.

The menu features a mixture of Taiwanese classics, street food, and fusion dishes featuring a blend of Asian flavours.

There are 4 kinds of Taiwanese-style egg crepes to choose from. We tried the House Special Taiwanese Ham & Cheese Egg Crepe (S$12.90). The cheesy ham filling was encased in roti prata and rolled to perfection.

Dunk it into the garlic and soy dip by the side and be rewarded with a lovely garlicky and savoury burst of flavour.

The Red Wine-Braised Pork Ribs with Modern Bak Kut Teh Sauce and Smoked BBQ Sauce (S$33.90) featured slabs of tender pork ribs together with a mixed salad served with you tiao croutons underneath.

The bak kut teh sauce was herby and rather unique but I preferred the good ol’ smoked BBQ sauce instead for its added hints of sweetness.

Spice enthusiasts, indulge in the Mala Madness Chicken Pasta (S$18.90). Al dente linguine, tossed with dried chillies, Sichuan peppercorns, and peanuts, delivers a fiery explosion in the mouth alongside a satisfying nutty flavour. The juicy, tasty grilled chicken thigh on the side completes the dish.

If you have room for dessert, you must try the Sizzling Croissant Ice Cream with Oolong Tea Caramel Sauce (S$14.90). 2 scoops of peanut muah chee ice cream filled with brown chewy jelly bits are stuffed in a croissant and placed on a sizzling skillet. Next, an oolong tea caramel sauce is drizzled right on top— perfection!

Presented with regal elegance, Concubine Yang’s Dream of Mango Pomelo Sago (S$18) is served in 2 Oriental tea cups. One cup holds a delightful mango pomelo sago dessert, while the other contains an alcoholic blend featuring ingredients like coconut, rum, and triple sec.

The choice is yours as you blend both elements to your desired strength in 2 opulent gold cups— an ideal option for those, like me, who aren’t avid drinkers.
