Why Joe DiMaggio didn’t make a ‘Seinfeld’ cameo

Yankee great Joe DiMaggio almost appeared on an episode of “Seinfeld.”

Joltin’ Joe was featured prominently in a Season 3 episode in which Kramer spots him at a coffee shop and attempts to disrupt DiMaggio’s concentration while dunking his donuts (DiMaggio himself didn’t appear in the episode).

According to Dr. Rock Positano — a longtime pal of the slugger and author of “Dinner with DiMaggio” — DiMaggio’s family loved the episode and urged him to make a cameo on the series.

“Joe’s granddaughters were big fans of ‘Seinfeld’ and wanted him to do the cameo,” Positano told Page Six.

Positano also revealed that DiMaggio was, in fact, a “dunker” whose favorite “was plain pound cake toasted on a grill on one side only.”

In the end, the notoriously private sporting hero nixed the appearance, despite his family’s pleas.

“He felt it would have opened him up to criticism and invaded his privacy anytime he walked into a coffee shop,” Positano explained.

But “Seinfeld” did make one mistake.

“Joe was a dunker who dunked with his right hand, not left, as was shown in the ‘Seinfeld’ scene,” Positano added. “He would always order a half a cup of decaf with a side of hot water and would meticulously mix the two just like a chemist.”
