Multiple people hurt after car smashes into limousine

A Mercedes driver slammed into a stretch limousine that was packed with people leaving a wedding reception in Suffolk County on Sunday morning and then fled the scene of the crash, police said.

The driver was heading east on Wilmington Drive near Chriswell Drive in Melville at about 1:35 a.m. when his car veered into the oncoming lane and crashed head-on into the limo, injuring its driver and five passengers, authorities said.

The passengers were leaving a wedding reception, authorities said, but the bride and groom were not among those injured.

Tony Caen, 59, who lives near where the crash happened, told the Post there was little warning before the collision.

“There was no screeching brakes, just the impact. Bang!” Caen said. “The car was on the wrong side of the road. He was coming up the hill, and this is a long sharp bend.”

Caen added that he heard rap music coming from the limo and smoke rising from the car after the crash.

The Mercedes driver ran away from the crash site and was picked up another driver in a dark-colored sedan, police said.

The five limo passengers and the driver were taken to area hospitals and treated for non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
