Background

Frankie Beverly needs no introduction; his fans love him for his soulful music, happy demeanor, and signature all-white attire. He is a highly respected musician who has created a cult following over decades. Much of his fan base consists of loyal fans who have been with him for a long time. Beverly was born on December 6, 1946, in Philadelphia, Southeastern Pennsylvania, U.S. He has an African-American ethnicity.

As a child, Beverly would sing gospels in the church. He joined his first band when he was 13, and formed an acapella group called The Blenders, at 16. However, his father wanted him to pursue a more traditional and financially rewarding career, so he prompted him to reconsider his choice. However, Beverly was adamant and did not give up on his decision to pursue music. In 1970, he formed a band, Raw Soul, and moved to the San Francisco area in California with his bandmates. There, they struggled to get shows until they got to meet Marvin Gaye, who gave Beverly and his band the much-needed financial backing and also introduced them to his contacts in the music industry.

In 1976, Beverly’s band, Maze, which was earlier known as Raw Soul, released its debut album, “Maze featuring Frankie Beverly,” which was a chart-buster and sold more than five million copies. In 2012, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Black Entertainment Television (B.E.T.). Beverly has a son Anthony, who is also a musician. His signature style of all-white attire has become such a hit that even the audience wears white to his concerts to honor him.
