Porfirio Díaz was a Mexican president who was incredibly influential, but remained in power through the use of corruption and violence–especially against the poor. In this particular section of the mural, Siqueiros depicts a mass of working class people resisting the unfair treatment in Mexico at the time. By using rapid, bold lines to emphasize each individual person from an almost indistinguishable crowd, the artist reinforces the power of the community.
