From the Dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz to the Revolution – The Revolutionaries, by David Alfaro Siqueiros

David Alfaro Siqueiros, From the Dictatorship of Porfirio Díaz to the Revolution - The Revolutionaries, 1957-1965, acrylic on plywood, Hall of the Revolution, National History Museum, Chapultepec Castle, Mexico City

Porfirio Díaz was a Mexican president who was incredibly influential, but remained in power through the use of corruption and violence–especially against the poor. In this particular section of the mural, Siqueiros depicts a mass of working class people resisting the unfair treatment in Mexico at the time. By using rapid, bold lines to emphasize each individual person from an almost indistinguishable crowd, the artist reinforces the power of the community.
