Description

3-gallon Jiro Fuyu Japanese Persimmon - Grown in warm zones, this non-astringent fruit is high in fiber & vitamins. Eaten fresh or preserved, it looks like a squat tomato with no puckering.

Jiro Fuyu is a non-astringent variety of Japanese persimmon. It is known for its sweet, honey-like flavor and its smooth, creamy texture. The fruits are typically round and flattened, with a deep orange color.

Jiro Fuyu persimmon trees are hardy in USDA zones 5-9. They can grow to be 15-20 feet tall and 15-20 feet wide. They prefer full sun and well-drained soil.

The Jiro Fuyu is a self-fertile variety, so it does not need another tree to pollinate it. The fruits ripen in late fall or early winter.

Here are some tips for growing Jiro Fuyu Japanese Persimmon Plant:

  • Plant in a location that receives full sun.
  • Amend the soil with compost or peat moss to improve drainage.
  • Water regularly, especially during the first year after planting.
  • Fertilize in the spring with a balanced fertilizer.
  • Mulch around the tree to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Protect the tree from frost damage in the winter.

With proper care, Jiro Fuyu Japanese Persimmon Plant will thrive for many years to come.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind when growing Jiro Fuyu Japanese Persimmon Plant:

  • The fruits can be eaten ripe or unripe. Unripe fruits can be astringent, but they will become sweet and soft as they ripen.
  • The fruits can be eaten fresh, cooked, or dried. They can also be made into juice, jelly, or paste.
  • The tree is susceptible to a few pests and diseases, but they are usually easy to control.

Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves - looking dead and dry - very normal. They will flush out in spring.

We cannot send ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.

This ensures that the plant arrives to you with minimal damage, safely and securely. We have been employing this method for shipping plants for several years, occasionally using smaller pots for added safety and convenience during transit. It's important to understand that many plants enter a dormant state during the fall and winter months, resulting in the loss of most leaves and appearing dry or lifeless. This is a natural process, and come springtime, they will begin to regrow and thrive once again. Please be aware that due to regulations set by the Department of Agriculture, there are certain plants and sizes that we are unable to ship to California. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
