While you might be familiar with MAD Paris’s eccentric, custom timepieces, the fashionable French restoration company has tackled another grail of sorts — this time, however, it’s a bizarrely limited edition camera. Working alongside FARFETCH, the two have fully restored and re-designed a handful of Contax T2s.
Contax’s iconic model is practically a grail in the film camera community, but this new look doesn’t sacrifice the device’s integrity. The 35mm point-and-shooter is equipped with Carl Zeiss T* multi-coated Sonnar 2.8/38 lens, which paves the way for 35mm autofocus and Program AE. These were a pair of breakthroughs upon the camera’s release in 1991. Additionally, it features a 1/500s shutter speed and exposure compensation.
From a technical standpoint, this user-friendly camera remains a staple, but MAD Paris’ chic design language and use of earth-toned colors are what steal the show. The company’s take on this nostalgia-inducing camera is doused in shades of Dark Green, Desert Sand, Copper Suede, Aztec Teal, and Light Sand. Each color is limited to a mere two examples, totaling up to 10 overall.
