About Alocasia 'Dragon Scale'
Alocasias, commonly known as Elephant Ears, are some of the most common houseplants although their leaves can reach enormous sizes when grown outdoors! 🐘 They typically only support a few leaves at a time (more, when they get more sun!) so don't be concerned if you see an old leaf begin to retire after a new one emerges. They grow out of underground corms which are similar to bulbs, so next time you repot keep an eye out for baby Alocasias! They contain calcium oxalate crystals so be sure to keep them out of reach if you have children or pets! ⚠️

Crispy Tips? Is anyone clipping their crispy tips? Just purchased mine and it had a crispy tip upon purchase. Also what the average time for a new leaf to sprout?

Alocaisa browning tips My one and only alocaisa has Ben losing leaves because of them browning. I doubt it’s overwatering because this plant seems to be very thirsty he needs water sometimes every two days because he completely drys out very fast. I was wondering what could be wrong with him, any advice will help!! #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PlantTherapy #browning #AlocasiaAddicts #ElephantEar #help #helpneeded

Will Diatomaceous Earth be enough to kill spider mites? So I’ve been isolating this Dragon scale, and was just about to take it up stairs, since it’s been more then a week. Long enough to unfurl a new leaf. And on that leaf I see weird green lumps, not knowing what that is I grab a napkin to hopefully clean it off. And see legs on the lumps. I quickly dropped the napkin and was said “ HELL NO “ as I walk to my closet to grab my diatomaceous Earth. And just sprinkled it all over without thinking. And of course I rinsed off the leaves before I sprinkled it. My question is. Is the DE enough or should I do more ? #help #spidermites #DragonScaleAlocasia

Alocasia Help? Hello everyone. I woke up to my Dragon Scale Alocasia looking pretty droopy and out of sorts. I watered him a couple of days ago, and his soil is damp but not soaked. The weather hasn’t changed much except that it’s a little cooler and rainy today. I love this little guy and what to help! Do you have any idea what might be causing the droop? I’ve included before and after photos. Thank you!!!! #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #AlocasiaAddicts #PlantProblems #DragonScaleAlocasia #Alocasia #PlantRX

Sick plant maybe? So I got this plant a few weeks ago and the last two weeks it has just been going down hill. Last week the tips of several leaves started yellowing, now this week one whole leaf was completely and limp, the others are getting more yellow. I moved it from its usual spot in our sun room and put it somewhere with less direct sunlight in case it didn’t like all the sun it was getting, and I put a grow light above it. Few feet above it on for 8hrs (at night) on the second to lowest setting. What else could I be doing wrong? I love this plant and was really hoping to save her.

Just a reminder that it’s ok to rest, but try to not give up. Just keep being patient and kind, you never know what’s going on below the surface! NORBERT IS STILL ALIIIIIVE! He’s one of my first #DragonScaleAlocasia when I didn’t know as much so I whacked him to the ground and left him. He says a tiny hello!
