Campaign Story

Many areas in Yemen are facing famine-like conditions. This is forecasted to nearly triple in the first half of 2023. The Covid-19 pandemic has increased costs, made access to resources, and distribution of aid more difficult. 75% of the population or 22 million people are in need of some form of humanitarian assistance.

Over 55% of the population or nearly 18 million people do not have safe access to drinking water. Millions of Yemenis have to walk miles, carrying dirty water containers just to collect water instead of just opening up a tap of running water in their own home.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), the country has high rates of communicable diseases, limited access to routine immunization and health services for children and families, and inadequate sanitation as well as hygiene systems. The current conflict creates the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. The war destroyed and caused damage to water infrastructures such as dams, reservoirs and water systems. Besides, the situation also contributes to poor health and high death rates because of a lack of access to safe and clean water.

The Solution

We need YOUR help to equip their homes with water tanks, to significantly ease their hardship whilst fighting off threats of cholera. This means the women and children no longer have to walk for miles to enjoy a basic human right. Al-Iltizam has teams on the ground in Yemen that run 2 active bakeries providing free bread to the people. The team has installed 187 units till date, which is still short of the target of 500 units for Phase 1.

The beneficiaries included extremely poor families, internally displaced people, elderly, the homeless and orphans. Let us come together and help the poor and underprivileged in Yemen with the gift of water. Just RM10 can go a long way in changing their lives and bringing smiles to their faces.

Sa’ad ibn Ubadah asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, “Which charity is best?” The Prophet ﷺ said, “A drink of water.”

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him.” [Muslim]
