Just a short appreciative post for Carsten Krohn’s „Mies van der Rohe - Das gebaute Werk“, published in 2014 by Birkhäuser. I have repeatedly featured Krohn’s monographs dedicated to the masters of modernism because of their high-quality regarding plans and illustrations and the unagitated manner in which the buildings are being presented. With the present volume dedicated to Mies van der Rohe’s built works it is very much same but also particularly necessary: with him and his buildings being surrounded by aura and mystery Krohn’s chronological documentation removes the varnish and actually offers a fresh perspective on any of Mies’s designs from the Riehl House up until his very late works in the US and Canada. And his brief but to the point texts offer precisely those information needed to understand the building and their history (Krohn also documents the alterations). A perfect companion to Mies van der Rohe’s built work!
