Jamie Dornan: Uncovering His Past

1. Once Upon A Time

Stateside, Jamie Dornan is probably best known to television viewers in his recurring role as Sheriff Graham and the Huntsman on the first two seasons of Once Upon A Time. While the Northern Irish model-turned-actor will now be Fifty Shades of Grey's dominant Christian Grey, he has some experience being submissive as well — like at the beck and call of Once's Evil Queen (Lana Parilla), who literally held his heart in her hands.

2. Calvin Klein

Stripping down to his skivvies? All in a day's work for 31-year-old Dornan, who's posed for CK ads alongside Kate Moss and Eva Mendes. But while his abs are in perfect working order, his eyes may not always be. He told the New York Times in 2006, ''I don't see myself as particularly good-looking.''

3. Marie Antoinette

Dornan showed he has no problem playing Lotharios as Count Axel Fersen in the 2006 Kirsten Dunst-starring tale of France's iconic monarch. Thanks to plenty of smoldering glances, the queen loses her clothes before she loses her head.

4. Keira Knightley

The model-turned-actor dated Knightley from 2003 to 2005, and the duo reportedly split because he couldn't handle her fame. Dornan told Britain's Daily Mirror in 2006, ''I was intimidated by certain things that came with her fame and I felt out of my depth. It's still hard to talk about it.'' Hopefully, he's got a better handle on the Hollywood stuff this time around — If the past month of casting craziness has taught actors anything, it's that Christian Grey comes with a whole lot of baggage.

5. Hugo Boss

Dornan donned tighty-whiteys for a Fall/Winter 2007 Hugo Boss ad. Ladies who were likely particularly charmed by the steamy shots? Lindsay Lohan and Sienna Miller, who both reportedly briefly dated the model.

6. Sons of Jim

Look up, ladies! He's got a voice, too. Dornan's second best accessory is a mic — he serves as frontman for the folk band. They've released two EPs: 2005's Fairytale and 2006's My Burning Sun. While catchy, the folksy tunes from the duo probably won't appear on Anastasia Steele's iPod.

7. Dior Homme

Someone really needs to get Dornan a better mirror! Dornan asked his New York Times interviewer, ''Why am I the face of Dior Homme? ? I don't really know why Hedi [Slimane] chose me. I'm not the best-looking guy around.'' So modest. So inaccurate.

8. Diesel and Beyond

While Dornan may sizzle on camera, he's much more laid-back off screen. He married singer — and Colin Farrell ex — Amelia Warner. Warner isn't the enviable lady in the appropriately titled 2007 Diesel ''Global Warming'' ad above, but you can check her out here. She's currently pregnant with the couple's first child. That kid has some seriously awkward movie viewing in his future.

9. Assassin's Creed

Hot guys have to stick together! At the 2007 release party for the Assassin's Creed video game, Dornan has a bro date with fellow Hot Model-Turned-Actor Club member Josh Hartnett.

10. 9 Countries, 9 Men

In 2009, Dornan judged a Calvin Klein-sponsored male model contest that spanned nine countries. In other words, Dornan is so attractive, he has the power to anoint other studs. Perhaps he'll bring that enterprising spirit to the role of Shades' sadistic CEO?

11. Beyond the Rave

You might be surprised to know Dornan hasn't followed the well-blazed trail of portraying a vampire — yet. But in the 2008 online horror series Beyond the Rave, Dornan was vampire-adjacent as Ed, a soldier who must take on nocturnal bloodsuckers after discovering his girlfriend has gotten mixed up with them.

12. Shadows in the Sun

Look, ma! Clothes! The actor joined three-time Academy Award-nominee Jean Simmons for the 2009 U.K. drama about an aging matriarch (Simmons) whose daughter (Ophelia Lovibond) falls in love with a hunky outsider. He starred in two shorts that year, playing a bad boy entangled with a mother-daughter duo (played by Sting's wife Trudie Styler and real-life daughter Mickey Sumner) in Nice to Meet You and getting his spy on in X Returns.

13. The Fall

Shockingly, whips and chains-loving Christian Grey won't be the most intense line on Dornan's resume. He currently plays a serial killer opposite Gillian Anderson on the popular U.K. show The Fall. What's a ball gag when you've already conducted a murder spree?
