Joaquin’s family traveled around South America with the group and he’s stated that he used his experience to inspire his performance as Freddie Quell in The Master.

From the ages of 7-22 years old, Glenn was a member of this cult that originally began as an anti-war movement. She lived at the organization’s headquarters in Switzerland and has said, “You basically weren’t allowed to do anything.”

Michelle became a member of this group in her early 20’s while living in LA. They believe that food, including water, is unnecessary and that you can survive on only sunshine. It wasn’t until she was researching cults for a role that she realized she was in one.

The Subud movement came from Indonesia in the 1920’s, but it was David’s parent’s directly that caused him pain during his childhood. While the commune had no bathrooms, running water, or electricity, David was the victim of violent physical abuse from his parents and turned to drugs and alcohol before he was even 5 years old.

Winona”s family moved to the 300-acre plot of land known as the Rainbow Commune (one of the tamest forms of a cult) when she was 7 years old. They lived with seven other families, with no electricity, and tried to live off the land. She pursued acting as soon as her family moved off the commune.

Singer and rapper Angel Haze was raised in a community of Greater Apostolic Faith, which is a Pentecostal Christian denomination. She has described not being able to wear jewelry, listen to certain music, eat certain foods, or even talk to people outside of the community. She fled when she was 16 years old.

Musician Christopher Owens was also a member of the Children of God cult, and has compared it to being raised by the Taliban. He lived all over Asia with the group throughout his childhood and even had to watch his brother die of pneumonia due to the lack of medical treatment from the group.
