The Best of BTS V Songs: Celebrate Taehyung’s 27th Birthday!

December 30^th marks Kim Taehyung aka BTS V’s birthday, and this year he turns 27 (28 according to Korean age). It has been approximately a decade of which Taehyung has been showcasing his work ethic through his multiple capabilities as a singer-songwriter, performer, director and artist.

With songs such as Singularity to Winter Bear, hours can pass by whilst listening to BTS V songs. BTS V songs hold one of the most charming vocal tones I have heard, and when this is paired with the meaningful lyrics of the tracks, it adds another level of appreciation for his hard work.

Co-written by RM, the leader of BTS, Singularity is a track which captures the aura of an individual who awakens from a long, sweet dream of romantic love in the realisation of the toxicity of neglecting your existence in the name of saving love.

RM revealed in a live stream that the song is based on a book called The Singularity is Near which delves into some important concepts.

Singularity truly has to be one of my favourite songs by Taehyung- from metaphoric visuals to meaningful lyrics- naming the song a masterpiece is an understatement.

Sweet Night was released as part of the official soundtrack (OST) of Itaewon Class, a k-drama which featured one of Taehyung’s best friends and Wooga squad member- Park Seo Joon.

The lyrics of Sweet Night are heartfelt and are accompanied by a soft melody and Taehyung’s calming voice- all of which left ARMY feeling emotional.

Winter Bear is definitely a treat to the ears with the lullaby-style track which feels like you’re being wrapped in a warm hug.

The song adoringly captures the feeling of missing someone, as it was written to commemorate the third anniversary of Taehyung’s beloved grandma.

The heart-warming music video was also directed by V, as it offers a look into his point of view throughout BTS’ travels in 2019. Watch it below!

Stigma is V’s first official solo song, which was for the WINGS album released in 2016. The track revolves around the theme of guilt and weakness, and what an individual feels and believes after another person is punished in his stead.

Inner Child is one of the most heart-warming among BTS V songs. The message of Inner Child is a message of hope to Taehyung’s younger self, as he explains “I was sending my younger self a message of hope. You had it rough in the past, but now I found a certain degree of happiness, so keep your head up.”

Taehyung wrote the track with an idea of the performance in mind, and so his songwriting was influenced by his vision for the song’s performance! You can watch the touching performance for Inner Child below :)

As the composer and writer of the sweet song, Scenery, Taehyung describes the track as a “me-and-you” song which represents the idea of a landscape which encapsulates what was in his sights and him in ours.

Taehyung explains the track was born out of thoughts that performing for ARMY and having the opportunity to see them is what made it possible to take the beautiful photos.

With the soft piano melody and sweet vocals, Scenery does just that!

Taehyung wrote Snowflower with the idea of its release in the season which he was born in and the season that he believes describes him best: winter.

Taehyung wanted the lyrics to sound comforting during the time of the pandemic, with lyrics such as “It’s a special event to see you come here at this cold time of the year”.

Taehyung explains in a live stream that he tried to convey how big a deal making memories with someone is, hence, the song could serve as a special event for someone else, too.

Taehyung actually began working on this track whilst waiting for Jimin at a playground near their dorm at 4 am- hence the title of the song being 4 O’CLOCK.

4 O’CLOCK is a song which references Taehyung’s friendship with his best friend and band member, Jimin.

At the time of writing the track, V says “the music I was listening to and trying to make at the time overlapped with Namjoon, so he really understood what I was feeling and filled in the gaps where I needed help.”
