Sarah Hughes (New York)
Sarah Hughes (Democratic Party) ran for election to the U.S. House to represent New York's 4th Congressional District. She will not appear on the ballot for the Democratic primary on June 25, 2024.
On September 8, 2023, Hughes announced she was withdrawing from the race for New York's 4th Congressional District. [1]
Biography
Hughes was the gold medalist in women's figure skating at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, winning at the age of 16. As of 2023, she is the most recent American woman to win the individual Olympic gold medal in figure skating.[2]
Hughes has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Skating Club of New York since 2012. From 2015 to 2020, Hughes served as a Member of the Board of Trustees for the Women's Sports Foundation. She has headlined over 50 speaking engagements on the topics of women in sports, education, cancer research, and community development.
Hughes currently practices law in New York City. She became a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations in June 2021. [3]

Hughes earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. [4]
