Carr was a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate from Michigan. Carr withdrew from the election before the primary scheduled for August 7, 2018.

Carr was a Democratic candidate for District 37 in the Michigan State Senate in the November 2, 2010, state legislative elections.^[1]

Biography

Bob Carr was born in Hillsdale, Michigan. He received bachelor's degrees in communications and political science from Loma Linda University in 1970 and attended Northern Colorado University for some graduate study. Carr's professional experience includes working in community development through historic preservation. He was credentialed as an airplane pilot and has been affiliated with the Experimental Aircraft Association and the American Short Line & Railroad Association.^[2]

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I was a ward of Michigan Children's Aide Society. 22 foster homes. I was abled to attend 4 year coed boarding Highschool s and I worked. Attended a boarding University. Worked. 2 BAs. I graduated while volunteering a year doing community crisis management. In Washington DC I worked for the Office of the President's Office of Economic Opportunity & on Capitol Hill. In 1974 I returned to Michigan as Mackinac Island Chamber of Commerce Director. Since 1974 I have done Community Development, job producing projects throughout Michigan.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

Taking care of each Michigan Community
Together is better
It's all about Michigan

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Medical treatment & health care. Community economic development. Education

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

Senator Everett Dirksen. Worked across the aisle.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

Mark Twain my favorite author. Romans 12 of the Bible my favorite guide.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

It's all about people. Service to Michigan Open to everyone. Available to ALL media. Use the Senator megaphone to PERSONALLY communicate with our Michigan family.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I have broad experience. That had become the defining issue in the Senator Campaign. It seems I am the beginner of community projects. I get people to have vision. Based on this: "Do not ask about the money, ask about the goal." and the need of the project to come to fruition

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Be a concilertator. Be available. Help communities dream.

What legacy would you like to leave?

Concilertator. Getting people to dream. Seeing projects completion. Worked with my Senator colleagues.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

Old Ironsides restoration. Miss Ross got me saving pennies for the Frigate US Constitution. I got caught up in that.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Working on farms. Beef, Dairy, Poultry, Crops & fruit. Pre highschool, highschool and University.

What is your favorite book? Why?

Huckleberry Finn. Dealt with friendship regardless of race.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

Connecticut Yankee

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

A Sommer Place. Percy Faith

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

Not being with friends as often as I would wish.

What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

Getting our Economy back up. Uncharted time. Of course from my background. Office of Economic Opportunity and my economic projects

What qualities does the U.S. Senate possess that makes it unique as an institution?

The informational good available. The Senator megaphone to communicate daily with Michichgan citizens. Ability to write and pass legislation.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for senators to have previous experience in government or politics?

Yes. Mine is in campaiging and winning a Congessional prinary. Working for the Executive Office if the President and on Capitol Hill. Having had White House Media Credentials. Working with many communities and community leadership

Perhaps lower the number

What criteria would you apply when deciding whether to confirm presidential appointees?

Experience and personal demeanor

Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other senators?

Absolutely. The Senate cafeteria is a great place

Transportation. Agriculture. Aviation Sub Committee and one of the health care Committees
