H2O Just Add Water cast: Where are Australia's favourite mermaids now?

It's been over 15 years since the popular Australian TV show H2O: Just Add Water first graced our screens with its enchanting tales of teenage mermaids and their aquatic adventures. The show captured the hearts of young viewers around the world and turned its cast into household names.

But what have these talented actors been up to since bidding farewell to the underwater world of Mako Island?

Cariba Heine as Rikki

H2O: Just Add Water was Cariba's first acting gig and she brought the fiery and adventurous Rikki Chadwick to life.

Since leaving the show she has continued to build her acting portfolio with roles in Aussie shows such as Home And Away, Dance Academy and Blue Water High.

She has also got a break in the US starring in Everyone Is Doing Great, alongside fellow Aussie actor Alexandra Park.

Cariba said she still remembers her time on H20 fondly. "It is so meaningful being part of a series where a character really helped people through childhood and teen years," she told Now To Love.

"But it does put a lot of pressure on you as well to maintain that sort of image!"

Claire Holt as Emma

Claire Holt, who portrayed the responsible and level-headed Emma Gilbert, has continued to make waves as an actress.

Since leaving the show she has broken into the tough American market with roles in Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries and its spin-off The Originals.

In 2019, she married equity fund manager Andrew Joblon and the couple have son James, 4, daughter Elle, 3, and welcomed their third child, a baby boy called Ford, in November.

When asked what role she is most proud of on Today Extra Claire said: "People have asked me that question and it is so hard to pick one, but I have to say the role that started it all, H2O.

"It was definitely tough, and we were working a full-time job and trying to finish school, but it really began my love of acting and it opened so many doors for me."

Phoebe Tonkin as Cleo

Phoebe Tonkin, who played the shy and intelligent Cleo Sertori, has also had a flourishing career since her time on H2O.

Like so many of her contemporaries, roles in Aussie TV shows such as Home And Away and Packed To The Rafters followed.

Then in 2011, she decided to move to Los Angeles and try her luck there.

"I was 15 years old when I met Claire; she was 16," she recalls.

"And then, when I moved to L.A., I actually stayed on Claire’s couch when I was auditioning. And she was like, ‘This is the local coffee place.’ She really showed me the ropes of Los Angeles."

She's perhaps best known for her role in The Secret Circle and as Hayley Marshall in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals.

And 2023 is looking like a busy year for Phoebe with three films already released - Transfusion, Night Shift and The Foxes of Hydesville and with another three And On The Eighth Day, Kid Snow and TV series Boy Swallows Universe yet to be released!

But there is still one role she'd love to play.

"I'm dying to do something set in a different era, probably the Victorian era. If I could go to London and do a BBC series for the rest of my life, I'd be very happy," she revealed to Elle magazine.
