Claressa Shields talks about becoming the greatest female boxer in ESPN’s Body Issue

She has a new documentary, she’s working hard and she’s bold about her body

The ESPN The Magazine’s 2016 Body Issue is here! And middleweight boxer Claressa Shields, “friend to The Undefeated associate editor Maya Jones,” (in our heads) is front and center. After the official release, she posted her feelings on her Facebook page about posing for the issue.

Shields became the first U.S. female boxer to win an Olympic gold medal at the 2012 London Games. Now she’s headed to Rio de Janeiro for the Olympics again and she’s ready to break the mold.

The middleweight fighter sat down with ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue reporter Morty Ain to discuss the water crisis in her hometown of Flint, Michigan, and what she’s doing to ensure that she nabs another Olympic gold.

“Confident is believing in yourself,” Shields said. “Being humble is, even though you believe in yourself and you know what you’re capable of, you still work 10 times harder than your opponent to make sure you get the output you want. I train very hard to be able to say that I’m going to be a two-time Olympic gold medalist.”
