Block: Siberian Birch Ink: Rembrandt's Relief Paper: Rives BFK Light Buff Process: Standard woodcut Image: Inspired by a photograph of Mt. Charleston (a decent 11K' mountain near Las Vegas) where a forest of pines stretched out their branches toward the winter sun. Mountain trees are light seekers, stretching their branches toward the scant winter light in order to survive. The limbs grow upward in a struggle for life giving light.
Process: Woodcuts and wood engravings are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually cherry in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.
